Hello! Hello! I feel like I am finally back on track and things are finally coming together for our home. It was a crazy few months, with our master bath update (which is still not complete) and the beginning stages of installing our new floors. As things started to FINALLY come together, I wanted to do a real life design board to share where I’m going with the details.

After getting all of my samples collected, I think it is coming together nicely. Our modern oak Pergo floors are still my favorite and having them in the whole house will be a HUGE update. Our new living room furniture is another big plus with a neutral color palette of white linen and graphite cotton. We are still waiting on two chairs that I ordered from Restoration Hardware and I cannot wait till they arrive!
Another big update will be changing the paint colors in the house. I FINALLY found the perfect light gray – Valspar Seashell Gray . Before with our gray tile floors, it was very hard to find a gray that didn’t look purple or blue. But, after three years I think I finally got it right. No more taupe-y beige ever again. So it’s light gray for the walls and a darker gray, Valspar Filtered Shade, for the doors.
Black door knobs, cabinet pulls, and black lighting is a modern look I think will pair very well with all the gray. I love the look of lever handles and its an easy upgrade from our basic builder doors. For the accessories in our home, I’m thinking white and nature inspired. A lot of wood tones and greenery, real or faux.
I can’t wait until my vision all comes together! I also cannot believe its already June and the year is half way over. Every year I share our plans, so its fun to see how much we have got done so far.
purge & organize
- new flooring
- update trim
The purging I have pretty much completed. In the beginning of the year we donated so much furniture and decor items that just weren’t working for us anymore. It felt so good to get rid of the clutter. I still have a few more areas I’m anxious to tackle, but its so much better. As for the new flooring, paint, and trim – well, we are working on that right now, so hopefully in a couple weeks I can check that off the list too.
- new flooring
new furniture new rug update entertainment center
- DIY fireplace
- patio door update
As for the living room, it seems to be the room that is taking the longest to update. We got a new rug, new couch, and entertainment center. We are working on the flooring now and I’m still dreaming of that DIY fireplace. Hopefully, it will be completed before winter and I’ll have a gorgeous mantel to decorate for Christmas. As for the patio doors, I’d love to one day have french doors but I doubt that will be happening this year.
- paint cabinets
- new appliances
- shiplap range hood
- quartz countertops
- subway tile backsplash
Welp, I don’t think the kitchen will be happening this year either. With a lot of our money going to the new floors and our master bathroom, it’s just not in the budget. However, it will be my top priority for next year!
- barn door cabinet
My office. Another project I keep putting on the back burner, even though I have all the supplies to make it happen. I was able to create the chalkboard this year, but truth be told – I don’t even use it. I don’t believe in having items in our home unused, so it will leaving this area.
I actually am going to add a few more projects to my little office – 1. a board and batten feature wall 2. updating my desk. This desk is the perfect size, so I won’t be replacing it but instead giving it a little update with my favorite Mudpaint.
I started our master bathroom for the spring edition of the One Room Challenge. I’m still embarrassed to say that as I type this – it’s still not completed. It’s close, but not yet. You can see what we have completed so far and I’m hoping to have it finished in the next couple weeks.
- custom shelving
I’m planning to complete our master closet for the fall edition of the One Room Challenge and I will not let myself fail this time. It WILL BE completed.
- farmhouse dining table
- seating area
- potting bench
- paint exterior
This summer I will be tacking both of our outdoor patios. I actually purchased a lot of our new patio furniture last summer while it was on sale, but then winter came and I never completed it. Again, another project where I have everything I need but it hasn’t been completed.
Actually, I think I will be declaring this summer as the summer of free or almost free projects. The master bathroom and new flooring put a big dent in our bank account, so we need to build that back up. I have tons of stuff on my to-do list that won’t cost much. I can keep busy, get stuff done, and save money too!
With so much to do this summer, I better get to work! What are your top DIY projects for the summer?
