One Room Challenge – Master Bath: Week 2 – Stencils & Shelves

One Room Challenge - Master Bathroom: Week 2 - Stencil Cement Tile Wall

It’s the second week of the One Room Challenge and I’m so excited to FINALLY be working on our master bathroom. If you missed week one, check it out to get the details on my design plans and before photos!

This post is sponsored by Royal Design Studio Stencils.

This week has been hodge podge of projects! You know the kind – where I am running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to check off items on the to-do list and not really getting anything done at all.

I should probably have a “half” to-do list, because some of the items are only half done. We finalized our choice for a new vanity top and I am so excited about it! Of course, it will be a few weeks until it is installed but I can’t wait. It’s Arctic Carrara quartz from US Marble.

Honestly, this wasn’t even part of the original plan and kind of added last minute. Joe convinced me to just take the plunge, because if we are doing all this other work the laminate vanity top that I’ve always hated would stand out like a sore thumb. He was right and now I can’t wait to see it all together with our new sinks, faucets, and mirrors.

But back to a little DIY project I did this week.

I love the super popular cement tiles seen all over Pinterest worthy bathrooms lately. However, I didn’t want to splurge on the cost and was worried that in a few years I would be over them. But luckily my friends at Royal Design Studio Stencils have some amazing stencils that give that same cement tile look for less!

I wanted to do an accent wall in our toilet area for a high design punch. Our walls are super textured, so I knew stenciling directly on the wall probably wouldn’t look very good. Well guess what? Royal Design Studio has MDF square tile shapes that can be painted and attached to the wall! I chose the Spanish Stencil Set for my design.

I started attaching the stenciled tiles to the wall but haven’t finished yet. I have a few more tiles to get painted and stenciled to complete the wall. But so far I am obsessed! Of course, its not perfect but it’s pretty damn close considering our walls are hardly even straight. Even Joe really likes it!

One Room Challenge - Master Bathroom: Week 2 - DIY Floating Shelf

I also created a diy faux floating shelf for above the toilet. Before, we had a small little shelf that didn’t really fit the space and was cluttered with decor. This shelf is a lot more substantial and I love the simplicity. Joe likes it too and is begging me not to stain it. I think I’ll be adding a light color stain and will just hope he doesn’t notice. Fingers crossed!

One Room Challenge - Master Bathroom: Week 2 - Gray Walls & Doors

I also got some paint samples for the main area of the bathroom and the door. Yup, the door. I’ve been wanting to paint the doors in our house gray for awhile now and Joe loves the idea, so I figured the bathroom will be the best place to start. And we are updating all of our door knobs too! Did I mention we have about a million projects to do this summer?? Send help.

I also called an electrician today who will be here next week to install our new double vanity lights from Lamps Plus. Right now we just have one large vanity light, and sorry but I don’t DIY electrical. LOL. Next week, we will also be removing our large builder mirror, finishing up the window trim and I’ll probably finish the rest of the paining.

Ps. I’ll be writing a full tutorial post on my stencils with all the details once I get them finished! I promise!

That stencil is stunning! I’ve seen that type of design all over Pinterest and have been swooning over it but like you wasn’t sure if it would be too trendy. I love the idea of the stencil. Can’t wait to see how it turns out 🙂
