Hello! I’m so excited to be joining the Spring Home Love blog hop and if your hopping over from Hood Creek Log Cabin – HELLO! And if you are new to A House + A Dog – WELCOME! This blog is all about beautiful living, comfortably in all aspects of our lives. Take a look around, learn more about me, take a house tour, and see my favorite projects.
If you have been following this little blog of mine for awhile now, you know I’m a big fan of shopping the house. This year I went on a “no spending spree” for a month and even though that’s over, I’ve been challenging myself to use items from the house first before I head to the store. In the past, I’d walk down the aisles of Target grabbing anything and everything I thought would work for the season. Then, I would get home and realize I already had a lot of items or at least something similar.

1. SWITCH OUT THE PILLOWS
I grabbed this pillow from our bedroom because I love the pattern and the blue is a nice touch for Spring. I’m also a big fan of pillow covers, it is so much easier to switch out a pillow cover and storing them takes up very little space! I’ve began to resist buying actual pillows and now just use pillow covers. H&M Home has great covers and most are only $5, I even rounded up a few of my favorites in this post.
2. ADD GREENERY
Faux greenery has a come a long way these days and I love it all year. I purchased these faux paper white bulbs from Magnolia Home last summer and decided to bring them out again. The cylinder vases are from Target and I got them during Christmas for about $3 each. I already had them and they ended up being the perfect height for the paper whites.
I also love faux succulents. Like OBSESSED. I’ve been working on our living room makeover with Joss & Main, so I can’t reveal much right now but I did add a tray to our ottoman, a candle, and some of my wood bead garland.
A mixture of faux greenery and real plants always works well and our fiddle fig Phil is still going strong for almost a year now. I have a few tips on caring for a fiddle leaf fig and I promise it’s not as difficult as you’ve heard!
3. USE WHAT YOU HAVE & GET CREATIVE
I love my books. I love decorating with them too. I’ve used these twine wrapped paperbacks in my office before and thought they would be fun as a tablescape for spring. I arranged them in different directions for some height and interest and then added a neutral candle.
Once again, I’ve kept my dining room simple this season and our house plant Patsy is taking over her corner. I also left my birch logs from last fall & winter, because I just can’t seem to part with them. I think they are perfect for every season!
4. NATURALAL ELEMENTS
Just like my birch logs, I’ve had these birch wood slices a few years now and use them almost every season. They are a nice natural touch and work for adding height or giving decor a base.
This little bunny is from my friends at The Urbane Farmhouse and I love him! His ears also act as a vase so when it gets closer to Easter, I will fill him up with some flowers.
5. KEEP IT SIMPLE
Everyone knows its Spring, your home doesn’t have to tell them that. So adding a few simple touches will change things up around the house without being overwhelming.
This last year, I’ve really wanted to simplify our home and one way I did that was not worrying about over decorating for each season. And frankly, it has made life a lot easier. We have a lot of DIY projects coming up in the next few months and I’m trying to save all my energy!
